RE:
CAMP HISTORY PROJECT

The Camp History Project is effort to document the history of organized camping in ACA Texoma's area and we will celebrate our history at the 2007 ACA National Conference in Austin. You may have already received this from Vance Gilmore and hopefully you already responded. If not, there is still time.

The Background:
A few years ago, a good deal of effort was put forth to document the history of organized camping in Texas. The results were a video (which Camp TV created) and a written history (which was published through the efforts of several individuals). Both of these efforts were sponsored through the Texas Section of ACA, which is now the Texoma section. The video was “premiered” and the written history distributed at a wonderful evening dinner during the National Conference of the American Camp Association which was held in Dallas.

This year the National Conference will once again be held in Texas, this time in Austin, February 13-16 (with kindred meetings before). Vance Gilmore is once again volunteering to take on the task of updating the video and the written history. Because we are now ACA Texoma, it will be expanded to include Oklahoma camps. Vance needs your help.

The video will be shown and the history distributed at a gathering during a dinner hosted by ACA Texoma on Tuesday night of the conference. We also my hope to show the video during a conference general session to spotlight our great history to all in attendance at the national conference.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Your help will allow us to represent the rich history of camping in Oklahoma and Texas as thoroughly as possible. What you need to know...

1. This project is for all camps in Texas and Oklahoma; a camp does not need to be an ACA member to be included in this effort. Camps 25 years and older will be recognized.

2. Complete the short Questionnaire below and return it to Vance Gilmore: vgilmore@campjohnmarc.org.

3. You must respond by email before January 20, 2007 to be included in this version of camping history.
