e-Institute Training Site

ACA's e-Institute is a Web-based professional development and public education system designed for the entire spectrum of child and youth development audiences—from ACA members to afterschool staff to community based program leaders.

The e-Institute is designed to provide cutting-edge, camp-related courses for the camp and youth development communities. As the library grows, we will continue to look at relevant and timely topics that will complement your knowledge, enhance the skills of your staff, and provide powerful opportunities to supplement the work you are already doing in your camp.

The e-Institute also supports ACA's educational delivery methods and products. Some courses may be related to books or other products offered through ACA's publishing company Healthy Learning. When deciding on a course, consider related products that might enhance your camp's library or training manual.

The e-Institute provides a mechanism for training large groups of people and facilitates learning via both self-directed courses and live meetings. Certificates are available. For more information, visit the e-Institute course course catalog.

Using Wikis For Internal Documentation

By Jeremy Wallace

Most organizations have (or at least should have) internal documentation that outlines procedures, best practices, and tips to help make everyone’s job easier. Unfortunately, creating this documentation is seldom a coveted task. It often goes unwritten. Or, once it’s written it languishes in obscurity and slowly goes out of date.

But what if you could share the work of documentation across all those who need to use it, and slowly build up a central repository of how-to items over time? What if your staff could easily make updates as soon as they discovered something out-of-date?

Wikis can help. A Wiki is a collaborative Web site that allows any authorized user not only to view information online, but also to easily edit the text of each page. Wikipedia is likely the best-known example of a Wiki, but many organizations and companies are also them to manage internal information.

What about letting your techno-savvy counselor staff create a wiki to share program ideas? Or your department heads using a wiki to work on ACA Accreditation Standards? Get creative and use technology to your advantage!
